There is a certain hour on a Sunday morning when time seems to soften. When the light through the windows turns lazy and golden and the only decision that matters is what to eat first. At The Able Butcher, we have built our brunch around that exact feeling: unhurried, indulgent and just a little bit theatrical.
Begin, as one should, with the ocean. Our oysters arrive still glistening with brine, three to a plate, dressed simply in mignonette, a whisper of Tabasco and a twist of lemon. There is nothing to improve here. Only the discipline to leave something perfect alone. It is the kind of first bite that resets the palate and announces, quietly, that this is not an ordinary breakfast.
Then, the centerpiece. Our Truffle Risotto is where restraint gives way to a little decadence, grains cooked to a slow, silken finish, crowned with shavings of truffle carpaccio and a thread of green oil that perfumes the whole plate before the fork ever arrives. Add a seared scallop, caramelized at the edges and sweet at the center and the dish becomes something closer to a small indulgence than a meal, The sort of plate you find yourself ordering again on your next visit, almost without meaning to.
For those who brunch with real appetite, there is the Able Butcher Burger, dry aged beef with real depth and character, layered with cheddar, a red onion marmalade that brings a gentle sweetness and a fried egg that turns the first bite into something wonderfully untidy. It sits, unapologetically, in a dotted box on our menu. A small design flourish that hints at what it is: the dish we’re proudest of.
And for the moment the meal turns sweet, our French Toast arrives glazed in lemon curd, crowned with pillowy marshmallow, and finished with a scoop of lemon sorbet that cuts cleanly through the richness. It is nostalgic and refined in equal measure, comfort food dressed for a nicer occasion.
No such morning is complete without a glass in hand. Our Mimosa Selection: Classic, Yuzu Strawberry and Rhubarb, is built for lingering, for conversation that drifts, for the particular pleasure of not checking the time.
This is the philosophy behind our brunch: a handful of dishes, each given the attention it deserves, served in a room where the only real expectation is to stay a while longer than planned.
